Soap has been made since ancient times, but did you know that liquid soap is a relatively recent invention compared to how long we've been using soap? It was not until the nineteenth century that liquid soap was invented. In 1865, an American man named William Sheppard took out the first patent for liquid soap. Sheppard used advertising phrases such as "very convenient to use" - "superior detergent qualities" to market his soap. Over the years, other inventors continued to improve the liquid soap formula. In Germany, in 1933, Kurt Stickdorn took out a patent for liquid soap containing coconut oil to make the soap more effective.
